Everyone needs a great pizza dough recipe - this one is extra tasty because of 1 thing - extra coarse salt.
Pizza dough - it’s one of those recipes that everyone needs to have in their back pocket. As much as ordering pizza is such a convenient thing sometimes you want that homemade flavour right!
So I feel like there is one thing that is often lacking from really great pizza dough, salt. Sometimes you go to a really great pizzeria and find something extra special about the pizza. While fresh and flavorful toppings are key, so is the crust. Really great crust makes or breaks a good pizza in my opinion.
Two things that are the key to great pizza - dough and cheese, and both of those things require a good amount of salt. Have you ever had mozzarella that is flavourless, add a touch of salt, it will make all the difference in the world! The same thing goes for the crust, it needs to be well seasoned to really pop. That’s where the coarse salt in this recipe comes in.
So while it’s not mind-blowing or particularly groundbreaking to add coarse sea salt it does make a world of difference. So next time you want a pizza night skip the takeout and whip up a batch of homemade pizza dough - trust me, it will be worth it!

1 cup warm water
1 tsp honey
1 tsp active dry yeast
4 1/2 cup flour
2 tsp coarse salt
In the bowl of a stand mixer add in honey, yeast and water - stir to combine. Allow to sit for 5-7 minutes or until mixture becomes frothy.
To the bowl add in flour and salt knead on low until the dough comes together (using the dough hook). Once the dough is just combined then set timer for 8 minutes and continue kneading.
In a large bowl pour a small amount of olive oil then place your dough in and roll until dough it covered with the oil. Allow to sit in a warm place until it has doubled in size (approx. 1 hour).
Punch down the dough once it is doubled then divide into 4 pieces for small pizzas or 2 pieces for medium pizzas. Allow to proof another 1 hour before using.
